Conservationists from across the nation visited Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, March 19 for the NACD Spring Legislative Fly-in. The day started with a breakfast, where attendees heard from Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) and Senator Jon Tester (D-Mont.) regarding the Farm Bill and other legislative issues relating to natural resource conservation.
After the breakfast, NACD members met with their individual Senators and Representatives to discuss conservation priorities. This evening, NACD will host a Congressional Reception in the House Agriculture Committee room. The event is expected to be widely attended by Members of Congress, Capitol Hill staff, Agency officials, reporters and other key partners.
"As we look at the long-term health of our land and our economy, making a strong investment in conservation simply makes sense," NACD President Earl Garber said. "We'll be driving home the point to our lawmakers that it makes more sense to care for our natural resource base today, than to be forced to pay the escalated costs for repair down the road. It's extremely important that we protect conservation funding, because—simply put—conservation works."
