Conservationists from Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas gathered last week in Lafayette, La. for NACD’s South Central Region meeting.
While water quality was the primary focus of the meeting , speakers also highlighted issues including herbicide resistance in weeds and feral hog control. NACD President Earl Garber addressed the group, along with Phyllis Philipps, USDA-NRCS Acting Regional Conservationist.
Meeting attendees also learned about saltwater intrusion into agriculture lands at a freshwater management tour along the Intracoastal Waterway. While on the tour, members viewed some of the lasting damage to the region from Hurricane Rita.
The South Central Region Employees Association presented Andrew Wargo, former NACD board member from Arkansas, with the outstanding service award.
