Conservation leaders from states and territories in NACD’s Southwest and Pacific Regions met in Durango, Colo. last week for their annual joint region meeting. Hosted by the Colorado Association of Conservation Districts, the meeting provided an opportunity for NACD board members to conduct business during general sessions and regional board meetings. The group received legislative updates from NACD Director of Government Affairs Laura Wood Peterson, a financial update from NACD Secretary/Treasurer Dick Went, as well as an introduction from the new NACD Western Issues Specialist Ted Ramsey.

The event also included talks from Cindy Lair of the Colorado Department of Agriculture; Natural Resources and Western Issues Attorney, Karen Budd-Falen; Society for Rangeland Management Executive Vice President Jess Peterson; Tracee Bentley, Legislative Director for Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper; Katie Whighthall, Western Region Strategy Committee Coordinator; and Jim Ogsbury, Executive Director of the Western Governors Association.

A successful auction brought in over $4,000, which will benefit the Colorado Association and Western Issues for NACD.

Participants also had the opportunity to see the colorful Colorado landscape by way of a 1920s built steam-powered locomotive on the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

Thanks to all who worked hard to make this event successful!
