pollinatorawardThe North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC) and NACD co-sponsored the 2013 U.S. Farmer-Rancher Pollinator Conservation Award. Presented by NACD CEO John Larson, this year’s award was given to Josiah and Valer Austin at the NAPPC VIP Reception on October 22 in Washington, D.C.

The award is meant to recognize an individual or a family in the U.S. rancher or farmer community who has contributed to pollinator species protection and conservation.

The Austins own ranches in Arizona, Texas, Montana, and Northern Mexico, and have promoted pollinator conservation by rearing and planting pollinator-attractive vegetation, monitoring and documenting the diversity of pollinators on their properties, establishing a baseline for pollinator dynamics in semi-natural environments, supporting student programs that teach about pollinators, support landscape-scale efforts to restore pollination, and practicing sustainable ranching.
